I posted a photo on Instagram & Twitter and I had quite a few questions about these books so I thought that I'd feature them in a post!
For those of you that frequently read my blog, may well know that I am taking the steps to train to be a makeup artist! To try and give myself a basis to build on, I thought it would be a good idea to invest on some 'beauty books' and since I've heard some really good things about these particular two, I snapped them up on Amazon! They both have a RRP of £25, but they are sold at £16 on Amazon, and then as a student I qualify for 5% student discount on certain things, including books! I know 5% isn't a lot but it did mean that I got both books for £30.20 rather than £32 - every little helps!
The Jemma Kidd book, in my opinion is aimed more so as those who enjoy makeup but do not wish to be a professional in the field. It gives you so much valuable information, tips and advice as well as demonstrations on how to create so many different looks! I feel as if this would be a great book for someone who wants to know a little more about what they're actually using on their face! It's not a bad book at all, I just think the target audience is more hobbyists than those wishing to become pro.
This book is great! I would say this book caters more for those who wish to make a career out of the makeup industry, but it's definitely not limited to that! There is a large section of the book dedicated to that, which obviously does cater for those looking at becoming an MUA but it's a really informative book for anyone - novice, hobbyist or aspiring pro!
Both books are set out really well and in such a way that you can find exactly what you want really easily. They both cover so much and provide so much detail - from eyeshadow finishes to what to look for in skincare for your skin type! They both have beautiful photographs and have really easy step-by-step tutorials for creating looks! Although I wouldn't stop anyone buying either book, I think if you're only buying one, if you're thinking about going professional pick up the Bobbi Brown one and if you're not, then get the Jemma Kidd one!
